On our second leg we had to pass several suspension bridges. The Hillary Bridge is one of the better-known ones and even had an appearance in the 2015 movie “Everest”.

The Hillary Bridge, named after the famous mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary, is one of the most iconic suspension bridges on the way to Everest Base Camp. Located in Nepal's Khumbu region, it stands as a notable highlight for many trekkers. With an impressive height of around 125 meters above the Dudh Koshi River, the bridge offers breathtaking views and marks an important milestone on the challenging journey to the world’s highest peak.

The bridge is often adorned with colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind, creating the characteristic look of many Nepalese bridges. These flags are meant to bring luck and blessings, protecting travelers on their journey. Due to its height and the way it sways in strong winds, crossing it can be a challenge for some. Nevertheless, it’s an essential part of the experience, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and gorges.

Featured in the 2015 film *Everest*, the Hillary Bridge gained worldwide fame. The film powerfully depicts the difficulties and courage required to climb Everest. The bridge symbolizes the connection between modern trekking tourism and the centuries-old traditions and culture of the region, which has been shaped by generations of Sherpas.
