Hidden in Clouds

Nepal Travel

Getting up early to return to Lukla we’re treated with a spectacular view: Mount Lhotse hiding in clouds in the most beautiful fashion we could possibly imagine.

At 8,516 metres, Mount Lhotse is the fourth highest mountain in the world and is located directly south of Mount Everest in the Himalayan region. It is often overshadowed by its famous neighbours, but Lhotse has its own impressive character. The northern flank is particularly striking and steep, making it a demanding challenge for experienced mountaineers. The Lhotse summit can be reached via the same ascent route as Mount Everest, which makes it attractive for many expeditions that want to conquer both peaks.

Lhotse means ‘south summit’ in Tibetan, which refers to its location in the Everest region. However, the mountain has its own magic and beauty, especially its infamous south face, which rises almost 3,300 metres into the air and is considered one of the most difficult steep faces in the world. The ascent of Lhotse is less frequented than that of Everest, allowing many mountaineers a more secluded and tranquil experience. For nature lovers and mountaineers, Lhotse is a special place that epitomises the mighty and majestic atmosphere of the Himalayas.
